Flood, landslide disrupt rural roads in Khotang

Hotang: All rural roads in Hotangu have been damaged by floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in the last few days.

Passengers traveling to Diketl Bazaar and Tarai area will have to walk for 4 hours to reach their destination. Ram Kumar Hingman, Managing Director of Hotang Transport Pvt Ltd, said that during winter, transport services operate in all 10 regions of the region, but currently only Diktel-Kathmandu, Diktel-Itahari-Biratnagar and Diktel-Bhojpur are operating.

"All the roads in the fair weather areas were damaged by the rain," he said. "To be suitable for all weather conditions, the road must be black coated."

Diktel-Baksila, Diktel-Aiseluharka, Diktel-Pateka, Diktel-Mattim-Panchami and Diktel-Regmitar-Rasuva roads are completely damaged. One part sank and one part was blocked by a landslide.

Transporters have complained that the agencies do not pay attention to the repair and rehabilitation of rural roads during the emergency period. No need to use the blocked road to Dashain.

The Diktel-Gaikhat blacktop road section connecting the Tarai region under the Sagarmath Expressway has also been closed due to heavy rain. Roads were blocked, which made it difficult to deliver daily necessities.

Aruna Devi Rai, director of Jantedhunga Rural Municipality, said they are working to restore the road but are facing continuous torrential rains.
